Happy Fathers’ Day & Dowd Photography on TODAY!!
When I found out one of my photographs was used during a piece on NBC’s Today Show I was pleased. When I saw the report I was even happier about the subject. Jeff Rossen reported on a new book by Lawrence Cohen and Anthony DeBenedet called “The Art of Roughhousing.” The book seeks to encourage parents to engage in horseplay despite it’s decline due to the current obsession with safety and overuse of video games for entertainment. The author’s premise is that kids need to learn to do dangerous things safely and what better way to do so than while bonding with parents and getting exercise?
One of my favorite moments to capture is a parent playing with their kids and I always encourage play during my Central Park photoshoots. It results in the most genuine smiles and I love to think that the portrait shoots seem more like a play date and something to look forward to than a boring hour of being forced to grin at the lens! Below are links to the Rossen report, the photo he chose to use (from our photoshoot last fall) and a few of my favorite “at play” photographs from the past years.
